Building an Ethereum Mining Rig (13 GPU) - 4th part

Third update to the guide "Building a Mining Rig for Ethereum". The absolute first guide to building a RX Vega 64 8gb 13 GPU Mining Rig.
Reading this guide to building a 13 GPU Ethereum mining rig requires adequate knowledge of building and running an Ethereum Mining Rig. We therefore recommend a previous view of our Guide to build a Mining Rig and related updates.

Let's immediately list the hardware used:

- Asus Mining Master X370 mainboard
- Core i5 Coffee Lake CPU
- 480 or 500GB SSD
- 32Gb Ram
- 13 GPU RX Vega 64 8Gb
- 3 x 1000W power supplies
- 1 1200W power supply
- 8Gb USB stick

In this guide we will obviously not explain how to mount the hardware of a Rig. The only notes we wish to underline are the following:

- the 1200W power supply must be the primary one on which to connect 4 GPUs and the video output for the monitor

- all the risers, as well as obviously the GPUs, must be powered through the 8-pole connections of the power supplies. We strongly advise against the use of 6-pole ports. Therefore, have the appropriate number of cables available for all connections. Risers can also be powered in pairs.

- the model of the video card used is the Asus Rog Strixx Gaming RX Vega 64 8Gb

The operating system is Windows 10 updated to the latest version available. The tool for creating installation media is available at the following link https://www.microsoft.com/it-it/software-download/windows10 to be able to use the USB key as a launcher for installing Windows 10 .

With the Asus Mining Master, the GPU risers can be connected directly to the motherboard via the USB cable, thus making one of the small components of the riser kits unusable.

After making all the connections on the motherboard, check that all GPUs are highlighted in green when the PC starts up. If not, move the USB cable on the motherboard one position. It may take at least 2 or 3 attempts.

Ethereum mining with 13 GPUs
Having solved this possible small inconvenience, let's proceed with the installation of the AMD Adrenaline 2020 drivers, always updated to the latest version, relating to the RX Vega Series.

If you want to proceed with more caution, the advice is to disconnect all the GPUs (remembering the locations of the USB cables) except one before installing the drivers.

The mining will be carried out on the Ethermine pool, our favorite, using the Claymore 15 software.

Once the download is complete, you will have to unzip the folder on the desktop and open the start.bat file contained in the Claymore folder using Notepad. The procedure is the usual one: delete the content and copy-paste the following command string:

start config.dll -epool eu1.ethermine.org:14444 -ewal "your ETH wallet address" -epsw x -worker "worker"
EthDcrMiner64.exe

Where EthDcrMiner64.exe is the executable, -epool indicates the pool to mine and its port, -ewal is the wallet address and -epsw is the password that we leave blank (X).

In place of "your wallet address" you will have to put your Ethererum wallet and instead of worker you will enter an identification number in case you plan to build more RIGs (such as RIG1, RIG2, etc ...).

At the following link, many other useful commands for your Rig:
https://github.com/Claymore-Dual/Claymore-Dual-Miner

Try to run mining and check that the system is stable.

In the Payouts section, after a few minutes of mining, you can decide the minimum amount of Ether to be sent to your wallet by simply entering the IP address of the RIG.

We performed the mining directly on the Ethereum address of the Exodus wallet. Coinbase is not supported.

Overclocking with OverdriveNTool
Let's proceed now with the download of OverdrivenTool at the following link: https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/overdriventool-tool-for-amd-gpus.416116/

For those unfamiliar with it, we recommend reading our software guide.

For those who do not intend to experiment or do not completely trust their software experience, at the following link you can view the settings on the parameters of the GPUs and the RAM of the GPUs - and other small tricks - to obtain the best possible performance without forcing the cards too much. video.

On our Youtube channel (subscribe numerous !!!) you will now be able to see the video relating to the start of mining and the one concerning the stabilization phase.

To better cool the Rig we have also installed fans for the extraction of heat as caution is never too much. Moreover, there is also an aesthetic gain.

Conclusions on the guide to build a 13 gpu ethereum mining rig.
Finally, we conclude this guide by reporting what everyone was waiting for (we do not say how long we had to wait before obtaining this result) the video link complhttps: //www.youtube.com/watch? V = k53XZn3zc9I & t = 61seto del Rig e del Mining .

We remain available for any advice, both on pools, on yield and on consumption.

Feel free to contact us in case you run into any problems where our guide to Building a 13 GPU Ethereum Mining Rig has not been completely helpful.

See you soon.

Groestlcoin 6th Anniversary Release

Introduction

Dear Groestlers, it goes without saying that 2020 has been a difficult time for millions of people worldwide. The groestlcoin team would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone our best to everyone coping with the direct and indirect effects of COVID-19. Let it bring out the best in us all and show that collectively, we can conquer anything.
The centralised banks and our national governments are facing unprecedented times with interest rates worldwide dropping to record lows in places. Rest assured that this can only strengthen the fundamentals of all decentralised cryptocurrencies and the vision that was seeded with Satoshi's Bitcoin whitepaper over 10 years ago. Despite everything that has been thrown at us this year, the show must go on and the team will still progress and advance to continue the momentum that we have developed over the past 6 years.
In addition to this, we'd like to remind you all that this is Groestlcoin's 6th Birthday release! In terms of price there have been some crazy highs and lows over the years (with highs of around $2.60 and lows of $0.000077!), but in terms of value– Groestlcoin just keeps getting more valuable! In these uncertain times, one thing remains clear – Groestlcoin will keep going and keep innovating regardless. On with what has been worked on and completed over the past few months.

UPDATED - Groestlcoin Core 2.18.2

This is a major release of Groestlcoin Core with many protocol level improvements and code optimizations, featuring the technical equivalent of Bitcoin v0.18.2 but with Groestlcoin-specific patches. On a general level, most of what is new is a new 'Groestlcoin-wallet' tool which is now distributed alongside Groestlcoin Core's other executables.
NOTE: The 'Account' API has been removed from this version which was typically used in some tip bots. Please ensure you check the release notes from 2.17.2 for details on replacing this functionality.

How to Upgrade?

Windows
If you are running an older version, shut it down. Wait until it has completely shut down (which might take a few minutes for older versions), then run the installer.

ALL NEW - Groestlcoin Moonshine iOS/Android Wallet

Built with React Native, Moonshine utilizes Electrum-GRS's JSON-RPC methods to interact with the Groestlcoin network.
GRS Moonshine's intended use is as a hot wallet. Meaning, your keys are only as safe as the device you install this wallet on. As with any hot wallet, please ensure that you keep only a small, responsible amount of Groestlcoin on it at any given time.

ALL NEW! – HODL GRS Android Wallet

HODL GRS connects directly to the Groestlcoin network using SPV mode and doesn't rely on servers that can be hacked or disabled.
HODL GRS utilizes AES hardware encryption, app sandboxing, and the latest security features to protect users from malware, browser security holes, and even physical theft. Private keys are stored only in the secure enclave of the user's phone, inaccessible to anyone other than the user.
Simplicity and ease-of-use is the core design principle of HODL GRS. A simple recovery phrase (which we call a Backup Recovery Key) is all that is needed to restore the user's wallet if they ever lose or replace their device. HODL GRS is deterministic, which means the user's balance and transaction history can be recovered just from the backup recovery key.

ALL NEW! – GroestlcoinSeed Savior

Groestlcoin Seed Savior is a tool for recovering BIP39 seed phrases.
This tool is meant to help users with recovering a slightly incorrect Groestlcoin mnemonic phrase (AKA backup or seed). You can enter an existing BIP39 mnemonic and get derived addresses in various formats.
To find out if one of the suggested addresses is the right one, you can click on the suggested address to check the address' transaction history on a block explorer.

ALL NEW! – Vanity Search Vanity Address Generator

NOTE: NVidia GPU or any CPU only. AMD graphics cards will not work with this address generator.
VanitySearch is a command-line Segwit-capable vanity Groestlcoin address generator. Add unique flair when you tell people to send Groestlcoin. Alternatively, VanitySearch can be used to generate random addresses offline.
If you're tired of the random, cryptic addresses generated by regular groestlcoin clients, then VanitySearch is the right choice for you to create a more personalized address.
VanitySearch is a groestlcoin address prefix finder. If you want to generate safe private keys, use the -s option to enter your passphrase which will be used for generating a base key as for BIP38 standard (VanitySearch.exe -s "My PassPhrase" FXPref). You can also use VanitySearch.exe -ps "My PassPhrase" which will add a crypto secure seed to your passphrase.
VanitySearch may not compute a good grid size for your GPU, so try different values using -g option in order to get the best performances. If you want to use GPUs and CPUs together, you may have best performances by keeping one CPU core for handling GPU(s)/CPU exchanges (use -t option to set the number of CPU threads).

ALL NEW! – Electrum Personal Server

Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server aims to make using Electrum Groestlcoin wallet more secure and more private. It makes it easy to connect your Electrum-GRS wallet to your own full node.
It is an implementation of the Electrum-grs server protocol which fulfils the specific need of using the Electrum-grs wallet backed by a full node, but without the heavyweight server backend, for a single user. It allows the user to benefit from all Groestlcoin Core's resource-saving features like pruning, blocks only and disabled txindex. All Electrum-GRS's feature-richness like hardware wallet integration, multi-signature wallets, offline signing, seed recovery phrases, coin control and so on can still be used, but connected only to the user's own full node.
Full node wallets are important in Groestlcoin because they are a big part of what makes the system be trust-less. No longer do people have to trust a financial institution like a bank or PayPal, they can run software on their own computers. If Groestlcoin is digital gold, then a full node wallet is your own personal goldsmith who checks for you that received payments are genuine.
Full node wallets are also important for privacy. Using Electrum-GRS under default configuration requires it to send (hashes of) all your Groestlcoin addresses to some server. That server can then easily spy on your transactions. Full node wallets like Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server would download the entire blockchain and scan it for the user's own addresses, and therefore don't reveal to anyone else which Groestlcoin addresses they are interested in.
Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server can also broadcast transactions through Tor which improves privacy by resisting traffic analysis for broadcasted transactions which can link the IP address of the user to the transaction. If enabled this would happen transparently whenever the user simply clicks "Send" on a transaction in Electrum-grs wallet.
Note: Currently Groestlcoin Electrum Personal Server can only accept one connection at a time.

UPDATED – Groestlcoin Sentinel 3.5.06 (Android)

Groestlcoin Sentinel is a great solution for anyone who wants the convenience and utility of a hot wallet for receiving payments directly into their cold storage (or hardware wallets).
Sentinel accepts XPUB's, YPUB'S, ZPUB's and individual Groestlcoin address. Once added you will be able to view balances, view transactions, and (in the case of XPUB's, YPUB's and ZPUB's) deterministically generate addresses for that wallet.
Groestlcoin Sentinel is a fork of Groestlcoin Samourai Wallet with all spending and transaction building code removed.

COSMiC v4.0a Public Test - The Easy-To-Use 0xBitcoin and ERC-918 Token Miner for nVidia/CUDA Devices (Windows 64-bit)

Release Thread: https://www.reddit.com/0xbitcoin/comments/c1590e/cosmic_v413t_update_nvidiacuda_win64_guibased/
Thanks!
Hello, 0xBitcoin Community! I'm happy to share my work with you today! This is a brand new CUDA miner for Pool-Mining 0xBitcoin and similar ERC-918 tokens like 0xBitcoinCash/0xKIWI. I've rewritten COSMiC from the ground up, using the best parts of v3.4 (the fastest/most stable release prior to this one.) Presenting, COSMiC V4! As I add more features to this miner, my goal is to make it as simple and pleasant to use as possible for newcomers to 0xBitcoin and mining in general.
SCREENSHOTS:
DOWNLOAD: (Out-Of-Date: See v4.0.1 link above)
FEATURES:
WHAT'S COMING SOON:
COMPATIBILITY:
Should work on nVidia(CUDA) cards Kepler(6xx-series) and up. Tested on Maxwell Gen2(9xx) and Pascal (GTX10x0). Developed on Windows 10. Should work on 8.1 and up (probably works on 7.) This is a 64-bit application and expects a 64-bit version of Windows.
Non-English Windows Users: **If the program crashes or doesn't launch when you double-click Cosmic.exe, please open the file Cosmic.exe.Config and change the 1.5 to read 1,5 - This is a bug with how decimal points are handled by a Windows function. I will add a fix right away. This workaround will hopefully fix the issue for you in the meantime. :) You should not need to edit the Config file manually in any other circumstance- just use the Options->Configure... menu item to quickly get set up.
You can probably also change this setting in Windows' 'Region & Language Settings' > 'Additional Date, Time and Regional Settings' > 'Change Date, Time or Number Formats' > 'Additional Settings' > Decimal Symbol `.`
HOW TO USE:
This is a brand new miner and as such only runs one GPU per instance. Multi-GPU support coming soon. See below for more info on using multiple GPUs.
MULTI-GPU INSTRUCTIONS:
A WORD ON INTENSITIES:
PERFORMANCE TIPS:
Please let me know what you think and help me to make this the best miner that it can be. :) I can be found here on Reddit or, for a faster response, look for me on the Discord (see sidebar) with the username @LtTofu [ Mag517 ]
Thanks for your support and feedback!

PSA: Users, (solo)miners, exchanges/merchants, and pool operators must be on v0.10.1 in advance of the hardfork otherwise you will get forked/booted off the network. Miners, please contact your pool operator to ask them if they have upgraded | Monero v0.10.1 released - mandatory upgrade!

Approximately the 9th of January there will be a hardfork on the Monero network. Most pools have upgraded or are in the process of upgrading, but some have not upgraded yet. If they don't upgrade before the hardfork they will get forked/booted off the network. As a result you will miss out on revenue if you are mining on these pools. Thus, if you are mining on one of the pools that hasn't upgraded yet or hasn't scheduled an upgrade, please contact your pool owner as soon as possible and urge them to upgrade. Alternatively, you can switch to a pool that is on the right version.

An important message for pool operators and miners

From MoneroMooo:
To all pool operators:
If you haven't already, you will need to update the node-cryptonote-util software in order for your pool to cross the january fork. I think many of the pool ops have done so already, but for those who are not in #monero-pools, you will need this patch: https://paste.fedoraproject.org/506116/17116821/
This applies to zone117x's version of the pool. There is a version of this ported to clintar's fork, which is here: https://github.com/M5M400/node-cryptonote-util/commit/37f50f9b535f0258c3a1c6f7247a891b4c211ff3.
If you're not running this when the fork happens, you will be forked off.
For pool miners, you may want to check with your pool op that they're running the patch a few days before the fork, and switch to a known good pool otherwise. Please prefer smaller pools when doing so.
Also bear in mind that running v0.10.1 or the GUI beta is mandatory. Any other versions will get booted off the network. Thus, miners, please email your pools and ask them if they are running v0.10.1 and have applied aforementioned patch.

General hardfork information

The upcoming fork will enable Ring Confidential Transactions. This will significantly enhance Monero's privacy. Note that they will not be enforced yet. That is, this hardfork will enable them, whereas the hardfork of September 2017 will enforce them. If you want to read more about Ring Confidential Transactions, see:
https://lab.getmonero.org/pubs/MRL-0005.pdf
https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/ringct
Due to variance the hard fork will likely be on the 9th or 10th of January. A specific block height was determined for the hardfork, not a specific date. The specific blockheight for the hardfork can be found here. That is:
// version 4 starts from block 1220516
As an user you need to run either v0.10.1 or the Monero Core GUI Beta 1.

Monero v0.10.1 - Wolfram Warptangent - release

First and foremost, please upgrade to this version. A blockchain resync is not needed. Only this version will work after the fork of January 5. Note that this fork will enable Ring CT transactions, but will not enforce them yet.

Overview

This is a necessary point release of Monero v0.10 "Wolfram Warptangent", and is highly recommended as it includes consensus-changing fixes to the RingCT implementation and various other bug fixes.
Some highlights of this release are:

Updating: Wallet Files

Simply create a new directory with the 0.10.1 binaries and copy your wallet files over to there. Make sure to backup your wallet files properly. If you need any help, feel free to PM me or respond in this thread. Note that your wallet contains three files, namely wallet.keys (this is the most important file, since it contains your keys), wallet (this is the wallet cache, which contains your transaction history and private tx keys), and wallet.address (which is just your public address). In addition, if you incur a bug whilst upgrading, you can always restore your wallet with the mnemonic seed as follows:
For Mac and Linux:
./monero-wallet-cli --restore-deterministic-wallet
On Windows make sure to launch it from the command line. Go to the folder monero-cli-wallet is located and make sure your cursor isn't located on any of the files. Subsequently do SHIFT + right click and it will give you an option to "Open command window here". Lastly, type the following command:
monero-wallet-cli.exe --restore-deterministic-wallet
If you want to restore from the private keys instead of the mnemonic seed, replace --restore-deterministic-wallet with --generate-from-keys

Contributors for this Release

This release was the direct result of 29 people who worked, largely unpaid and altruistically, to put out 481 commits containing 10 517 new lines of code. We'd like to thank them very much for their time and effort. In no particular order they are:

Generic Smart Contracts https://wiki.biblepay.org/Generic_Smart_Contracts
What is BiblePay Evolution? https://www.reddit.com/BiblePay/comments/bifvpk/biblepay_evolution_what_is_it/
Windows Guide: 1. Download 32 or 64 bit .exe from https://www.biblepay.org/wallet/ 2. Double Click / Run .exe file and step through Install process 3. Run BiblePay 4. Click Tools >> One Click Mining, (Or set up mining manually with steps a through d below)
     a. Open File Explorer, in address bar type: %appdata%      b. Press Enter      c. Go to BiblepayEvolution folder      d. Open biblepay.conf file for editing, add lines and Save
addnode=node.biblepay.org gen=1 genproclimit=1
NOTE: addnode is used to give the wallet a starting node to connect to and sync with gen=1 turns on mining by default when the wallet is opened genproclimit=1 sets number of mining threads to 1 by default

5. Close BiblePay and Run it again 6. In BiblePay, go to Tools menu, Click Debug Console 7. Type these commands into the debug console:
getinfo getmininginfo help
NOTE: getinfo will show you what block number your wallet is currently on and the version number getmininginfo will show you how many threads are running and how much mining hash you have help will show you all the other commands you can use

Threads: 8. To change number of threads to use up for mining
a. Edit %appdata%/BiblepayEvolution/biblepay.conf file: Find with File Explorer or inside the wallet go to Menu >> Tools >> Open Wallet Configuration File
genproclimit=X
and restart BiblePay -or- b. Menu >> Tools >> Debug Console >> Type command:
setgenerate true X
(Replace X with the number of threads you want to use Open Task Manager to view CPU usage)

Using the Pool:
NOTE: To use the pool you must now use the external miner, not the wallet miner https://whitewalr.us/2019/biblepay-nomp-pool-mining.html
  1. Set up an account on pool website: https://pool.biblepay.org/
  2. Create Worker Username(s) - Workers tab >>> Add (NOTE: Your Worker Username needs to be unique)
  3. Enable pool and add Worker Username in %appdata%/BiblepayEvolution/biblepay.conf file, add these lines:
    pool=https://pool.biblepay.org workerid=insertWorkerUsernameHere
4. Restart BiblePay
How to Withdraw Coins From Pool? The pool holds onto your coins, go to "Account" >> "Withdraw" to withdraw your coins In your BiblePay Wallet go to "File" >> "Receiving Address" and you can right click and copy the address and paste it into the Pool's Withdraw screen as the "Destination Address", then click the "Withdraw" button and the coins will be sent from the Pool to your Wallet
Setup Auto-Withdraw Navigate to Account >>> Account Settings >>> Verify your BBP Receiving Address >>> Click Authorize-Auto-Withdraws
Why use a Pool? As the network hash rises (as more miners are mining), it can take longer and longer to solve a block, by using the pool, everyone works together with all of their hash power to solve blocks, and the reward gets split between everyone who contributed based on how much they contributed in hash.
With solo mining (not using the pool) it may take 1 month to finally solve a block and get large BBP reward, with pool you can get small frequent BBP rewards every ~30 minutes. (BBP meaning BiblePay coins)

How to Update: Download exe from biblepay.org and install again, your wallet will stay intact

Backup:
Your wallet.dat stores your private keys that contain the access to your coins, this file is backed up every 24 hours in the backups folder, We also recommend that you save a copy of this file in other places, like a flash drive

FAQ
QUESTION: How long does it take for coins to mature? If you're solo mining, the coins become mature after ~100 blocks. If you're using the pool, they become mature after 24 hours
QUESTION: How do I know if I am currently mining? In your wallet >> In Top left Menu select "Tools" >> Click "Debug Console" Type in the command: getgenerate If it returns true, mining is turned on command: getmininginfo Will show how much "hashps" (hashing) your pc is doing, "genproclimit" will show how many mining threads you are using "poolmining" will be show value of true if you are successfully mining on the pool

What is HashbookBOT?
HashbookBOT is a Nicehash BOT who monitors pool profitability and coin profitability every 30 seconds. According to that results it changes speed limit on your nicehash orders. If BOT detects profitability is greater then order price on Nicehash, then BOT will set unlimited speed for that order. And if BOT detects profitability on pool is lower then pride of order on Nicehash, it will change speed limit to 0.01. Having multiple orders with different prices will result in constant hashrate and possible greater profit.

Is it hard to use?
No. You just have to add your Nicehash API. ID and KEY, add your wallet addreses (Options -> Wallets) and create orders within HashbookBOT under (Options -> Create orders).
https://preview.redd.it/ibiz7kdsow121.png?width=416&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c23d8cf20ffa00b3d908a2555fb60fbe81d43ee
How do I add my payout wallet?
Options -> WalletsSelect: Bitcoin, FuturoCoin or HappyCoin and enter your wallet addresses for each one.

Step 1:
Coin to mine: Here you select profitability checking. There are 3 options.
- Mine most profitable coin (This option will check profitability of all coins on pool).
- FuturoCoin (This option will check profitability of FutoroCoin and your orders will open/close speed limit based on FuturoCoin profitability).
- HappyCoin (This option will check profitability of HappyCoin and your orders will open/close speed limit based on HappyCoin profitability).

Step 2:
Pool payout settings:Select payout currency. BTC, FTO or HPC. (Your have to add your wallet addresses before you continue in Options -> Wallets).

Step 3:
Placement: US or EU nicehash servers. In example: EU
Number of orders: How many orders you wish to open. In example: 3
Base price: starting price of order. In example: 0.014
Price increase: select price increse for each next order. In example: 0.002
Fill each order with: 0.010 BTC [Minimum by Nicehash]. In example: 0.010

Setp4:
Press button "CREATE ORDERS AND SAVE".

Example: If you selected 3 number of orders first order will set price at base prace, next order will be increase by price increase value and third order will be increased by previes order price plus price increse.
Order 1: EU server with price: 0.014 and 0.010 to spend.
Order 2: EU server with price: 0.016 and 0.010 to spend.
Order 3: EU server with price: 0.018 and 0.010 to spend.

How do I start profitability cheking?
In main window select nicehash server where you just created your orders. EU or US. Then File -> Start.

Do I have to leave program running?
YES!

Before you quit program make sure you limit all orders with File -> Pause all orders to prevent any loss.

regsvr32 taking up 10-20% CPU, and RAM, is it a virus?

regsvr32.exe is taking up between 10-20% CPU at times, and a fair amount of RAM too.
There appears to be 3-4 processes of it running at once, however only one seems to be taking up a large amount of CPU and RAM.
I've looked it up, and seen where it's stored, it's in my System32 and according to google is a harmless windows file, however I've never noticed it taking up this much CPU/RAM before, just wondering if it's a virus?
I'm a little concerned about all these 'bitcoin miners' people talk about, and I am wary I've picked one up after downloading a mod for a game which I probably didn't download from the right place.
Any software to do some checks (already scanned with Malware Bytes, found nothing) on bitcoin miners or something that would use regsvr32.exe would be appreciated.
Thankyou!

Just the weirdest, most inexplicable sht I've ever dealt with in a rig. [PC, blackscreening, semi-random]

Hi all.
I'm utterly, utterly baffled. Stumped. Bemused. Befuddled. Bamboozled. I cannot explain this. At all.
I crash on my desktop, often (but not always) while opening Chrome. Crash can be 1m after boot, or 4 hours after boot. Machine blackscreens, stops responding, doesn't send anything to the monitor or respond to scroll lock or capslock.
Fairly standard - but I do NOT crash if there's a game running. Literally can run GW2 for as long as I need to, or warframe, or Titanfall, and it's solid as a rock.
I've arranged an RMA for my GPU as it's the most recent addition to the sytem (25 Feb 2014) and it was blackscreening on wake (but with a responsive PC/keyboard and the media server was still up), but I'm stumped. I've never seen anything like this.
What causes a rig to blackscreen when browsing or opening explorer, but doesn't have ANY problems when it's running high end games at max rez?

Nuked 'em.
Wonder if I have (or hopefully had) a malware issue. GW2 is running in the background and it's still not crashed...
Ideas anyone? Am thinking about ordering a new CPU/Mobo and seeing if that fixes it - next on the list (after another crash) is going to be a W8 re-install.
OS re-installed and BIOS updated, still crashes. Definitely hardware. Definitely not RAM, definitely not storage (SSD or HDD). Crashes still independent of load - but most common when clicking on something (Firefox, Chrome or Evernote for example).
So the candicate list as far as I can work out is:
CPU (moderately likely, though stressing with linpack or OCCT or prime does not cause crashes, and it's happy while playing GW2) mobo (happy while gaming, unhappy when asked to execute a crappy little prgraom like Chrome. Weird? gotta be unlikely) PSU - Feeling like this is a likely candidate. GPU - but doesn't crash when rendering ~100 players at max res in GW2.
Soooooo.... can anyone think of a thing to test next?
Final edit: running on the onboard GPU on mah telly. Flawless, no crashes at all. I think it's the GPU, the 2D processing chip or whatever must've been borked.
Recap: new GPU, no crashes. All is now good!

iwtwe's Total Noob Starting Guide. much noob..such help...very inform...wow

NOTE for seasoned miners, if I have made a mistake or if there is an easier way of configuring the miners or if I left something out, please do not hesitate to contact me about it so that I can edit this post accordingly. Let's help new people out so that the community will continue to grow! many thanks...wow
Hey you. Yes you with the eyes. Are you new to the world of crypto coin mining? Have no idea what a dogecoin is? Want to start mining dogecoins today and just can't seem to figure it out or get it to work?
Well have I got much help for you! About a week ago, I finally started mining after two painful days of trying to get it to work. Basically, I was a total noob and didn't really understand anything about mining in general. Because of the joy mining has brought me so far I am writing this guide to hopefully help out new members or other total noobs.
It's safe to say I've been bitten by the dogecoin bug. I started out with a measly 50 khash/sec and made approximately 10 coins in 12 hours. * My reaction when I finally got my miner to work * Reaction cont.
Now I'm up to 500 khash/sec after figuring out all the 'nuts and bolts' of mining. wow...such optimization...many hash
I'll break this guide down into three categories: Detailed Info, CGMiner Config for AMD Cards, and lastly, CUDAMiner for Nvidia cards.
Detailed Info very words....wow
A dogecoin is a type of crypto currency that is traded against bitcoins in a crypto currency marketplace.
You can earn dogecoins by contributing hashes (computing power) to a mining pool to help find a block.
There are a certain amount of dogecoins that will be released. These coins are released in the form of a block ranging in quantity of 1-1,000,000 doge coins. It is worth noting that the total quantity of coins per block will soon be halved to just 500,000.
Things you will need to mine: * dogecoin wallet * computer with a GPU * an account with a mining pool * a worker for the mining pool * mining software
1) [http://dogecoin.com](Download the doge coin wallet and install it)
2) Turn off your computer's anti-virus software and allow the dogecoin wallet through your fire wall. *VERY IMPORTANT
3) Run the dogecoin wallet and let it sync with the network. It is important to note that this can take a short amount of time or even up to 12 hours to complete. Just be patient. Use that time to research mining more.

Once your wallet has synced with the network, it is time to sign up with a mining pool. Think of a mining pool as a virtual supercomputer that is made up of many smaller computers connected together. This pool or 'super computer' allows for greater processing power. More processing power = greater chance of the pool finding a block.

Finding a pool
"Dear shibes!
Be careful when running Java and/or entering the usepass on sites. There are phishing sites out there that imitate other pools to steal your data.
When accessing a mining pool, DO NOT follow any redirects, always access the site directly and check the URL. For extra security, make sure you're using https://
Don't run Java!" <--- not my words, but very good warning to take into consideration
1) Perform a quick google search or use the links in the side bar to find a pool!
2) For this example I will be using https://fast-pool.com/index.php (I in no way, shape, or form endorse this particular pool. It was the first one I clicked. Feel free to use any pool you want, as the sites are all the same.)
3) You're going to want to click "Sign Up" in the menu on the left of the page. After clicking, sign up for an account.
4) After signing up for an account, log into your account. (For the sake of my example my mining pool site username will be "Shibe")
5) Now we will create a pool worker. Click "My Workers" in the menu on the left side of the page.
6) Choose a worker name and worker password and click submit. *NOTE THE WORKER NAME IS NOT THE SAME AS YOUR ACCOUNT USERNAME
7) For the sake of the example my workers name is "worker1" and the password is "x". *Note capitalization matters so don't forget it.
Now we will download a mining software and configure it to mine.
Before we do that I want to clarify what the info we will be using to configure our miner is.
1) Click "Getting Started"
In my example pool under getting started you will see this in "Step 3":
  1. Configure your miner.
Settings for Stratum (recommended): STRATUM: stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com PORT: 3336 Username: Weblogin.Worker Password: Worker Password
If you use a command-line miner, type:
./cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password
The above explained:
Final Step Regarding Mining Pools
We need to add our payment address to our mining pool account so that we can receive the dogecoins we help mine.
1) Click "Edit Account" on the menu on the left side of the page.
2) Scroll down until you see "PAYMENT ADDRESS".
3) Minimize the webpage and go to your doge coin wallet.
4) In your dogecoin wallet click the "Much Receive" tab.
5) You will see the Label "Default" with an "Address" composed of a long random string of letters and numbers.
6) Right-click that string of random numbers and letters and select "copy address".
7) Maximize the pools webpage again and paste that address into "PAYMENT ADDRESS".
8) Enter you pin and click "Update Account".
WE'RE NOW READY TO DOWNLOAD A MINER such hooray....many celebrate
IF YOU HAVE AN AMD CARD, THIS SECTION IS FOR YOU!
*Note AMD cards are much better for mining than Nvidia. It's just the way it is!
We will be using cgminer to mine dogecoins with our AMD cards.
While there are newer versions of cgminer avaliable you're going to want to download cgminer version 3.7.2 because any higher versions do not support GPU mining.
1) Make sure your AMD drivers are up to date.
2) This version of cgminer is now only available on gitub at this url. The option to download the zip file in on the bottom left right side column.
3) After downloading the file, extract its contents to a folder on your desktop.
4) Before we do that go to Control Panel Folder Options View select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and click apply.
BEFORE YOU TRY THE BELOW, RUN THE APPLICATION AND INPUT THE SERVER URL:PORT (stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336) "enter" USERNAME (Shibe.worker1) "enter" and PASSWORD (x) "enter".
*If the application runs without giving you errors hit the [S] and select "create config file" and hit enter.
5) If that didn't work, we will make a .conf file that allows cgminer to run correctly.
6) Now go to the folder you extracted cgminer into.
7) Right-click anywhere in the folder and select "New" Text document.
8) Right-click the new text document you just created and select "Edit".
9) Copy and paste the following into that new text document leaving no space at the top and enter the appropriate pool information accordingly. Noticed I used my STRATUM info from my example.
IF YOU HAVE ONLY ONE GPU USE THE BELOW
{ "pools" : [ { "url" : "stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336", "user" : "Shibe.worker1", "pass" : "x" } ] , "intensity" : "10", "vectors" : "1", "worksize" : "256", "kernel" : "scrypt", "lookup-gap" : "0", "thread-concurrency" : "0", "shaders" : "0", "gpu-engine" : "0-0", "gpu-fan" : "0-0", "gpu-memclock" : "0", "gpu-memdiff" : "0", "gpu-powertune" : "0", "gpu-vddc" : "0.000", "temp-cutoff" : "95", "temp-overheat" : "0", "temp-target" : "0", "api-mcast-port" : "4028", "api-port" : "4028", "expiry" : "120", "gpu-dyninterval" : "7", "gpu-platform" : "0", "gpu-threads" : "1", "hotplug" : "5", "log" : "5", "no-pool-disable" : true, "queue" : "0", "scan-time" : "30", "scrypt" : true,
IF YOU HAVE TWO GPU's IN CROSSFIRE USE THE BELOW CODE
{ "pools" : [ { "url" : "stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336", "user" : "Shibe.worker1", "pass" : "x" } ] , "intensity" : "10,10", "vectors" : "1,1", "worksize" : "256,256", "kernel" : "scrypt,scrypt", "lookup-gap" : "0,0", "thread-concurrency" : "0,0", "shaders" : "0,0", "gpu-engine" : "0-0,0-0", "gpu-fan" : "0-0,0-0", "gpu-memclock" : "0,0", "gpu-memdiff" : "0,0", "gpu-powertune" : "0,0", "gpu-vddc" : "0.000,0.000", "temp-cutoff" : "95,95", "temp-overheat" : "0,0", "temp-target" : "0,0", "api-mcast-port" : "4028", "api-port" : "4028", "expiry" : "120", "gpu-dyninterval" : "7", "gpu-platform" : "0", "gpu-threads" : "1", "hotplug" : "5", "log" : "5", "no-pool-disable" : true, "queue" : "0", "scan-time" : "30", "scrypt" : true, "temp-hysteresis" : "3", "shares" : "0", "kernel-path" : "/uslocal/bin" }
10) Click save-as Save as type, "All files" and rename the document to: cgminer.conf
11) Click save and run program.
12) If it still doesn't work try changing the intensity to a lower number or changing the workspace value to 64.
Everything should work now. If I have made any errors or if there are easier ways of doing this please let me know so that I can edit this. This is just what worked for me.
IF YOU HAVE A NVIDIA CARD THIS SECTION IS FOR YOU!
Before we do anything, go to Control Panel Folder Options View select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and click apply.
We will be using Cudaminer version 2013-07-13 https://mega.co.nz/#!hVREmSKA!VaGCdh3Ykfp-e8IOTFWaEXJGMa1JNVqPcdxawkCPRSE
1) Download Cudaminer version 2013-07-13 from that link and extract the contents to a folder on the desktop.
2) Open that folder and look for the Application.
3) When you've found the location of the Application it's-self you're going to right-click anywhere in the folder and select "New" Text document.
8) Right-click the new text document you just created and select "Edit".
9) Copy and paste this to the top line of the blank text document leaving no space in front and input the appropriate url, username and password from whatever pool you use. (I will be using my example pool info stated earlier in this post):
cudaminer.exe -o stratum+tcp://fast-pool.com:3336 -u Shibe.worker1 -p x
10) Click save-as Save as type, "All files" and rename the document to: Launch.bat
11) Click save.
12) Double click the Launch.bat file you just created to run the program.
13) Wait for the program to auto-tune your settings and then it will start mining automatically.
Everything should work now. If I have made any errors or if there are easier ways of doing this please let me know so that I can edit this. This is just what worked for me.

Connection issues when I try to start a p2pool node

I can't get the p2pool to work
I'm using the custom 64 bit cudaminer miner from the sidebar
4 gpu, soon 5, msi 750 ti rig
bat file
cudaminer -o stratum+tcp://127.0.0.1:5899 -u VkzNU5CWF7JLqCHJPiietYGJpnFEC8A3GV -p x
miner
cudaminer-2014-02-18
version x86
The vertcoin wallet is updated and running
the p2pool was then activated in cmd
C:\xxx\xxx\xxtakenoutbymefornoparticularreasonxxx\Peer2pool\p2pool-n-master>C:\Python27\python.exe run_p2pool.py --net vertcoin
server=1 rpcpassword=xxxxtakenoutxxxx
Keep that password secret! After creating the file, restart Bitcoin.
vertcoin.conf file
server=1
gen=0
rpcport=5899
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=xxx
rpcpassword=xxx
error message
[2014-05-07 09:48:31] Stratum connection failed: Failed connect to 127.0.0.1:589 9; No error [2014-05-07 09:48:31] ...retry after 15 seconds
wafflepool works flawlessly on the standard cudaminer, what now?
UPDATE:
Fixed the p2pool, it was a vetcoin.conf issue. I named the ending .conf.txt by misstake
Cudaminer works on simple vert! and p2pool!
I vent through a ton of visual studios variants, and "Visual studios 2012 professional" was the only one that worked for me!

Bitcoin-QT 0.9 disponível para download

The Core Developers of Bitcoin released the 0.9.0 FINAL of Bitcoin Core (aka Bitcoin QT).
DOWNLOAD:
This is a Final Version, but its the same as 0.9.0rc3
Sources: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/releases http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin/files/Bitcoin/bitcoin-0.9.0/ https://bitcoin.org/bin/0.9.0/README.txt
Bitcoin Core version 0.9.0 is now available from:
https://bitcoin.org/bin/0.9.0/
This is a release candidate for a new major version. A major version brings both new features and bug fixes.
Please report bugs using the issue tracker at github:
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues

How to Upgrade

If you are running an older version, shut it down. Wait until it has completely shut down (which might take a few minutes for older versions), uninstall all earlier versions of Bitcoin, then run the installer (on Windows) or just copy over /Applications/Bitcoin-Qt (on Mac) or bitcoind/bitcoin-qt (on Linux).
If you are upgrading from version 0.7.2 or earlier, the first time you run 0.9.0 your blockchain files will be re-indexed, which will take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the speed of your machine.
On Windows, do not forget to uninstall all earlier versions of the Bitcoin client first, especially if you are switching to the 64-bit version.

Windows 64-bit installer

New in 0.9.0 is the Windows 64-bit version of the client. There have been frequent reports of users running out of virtual memory on 32-bit systems during the initial sync. Because of this it is recommended to install the 64-bit version if your system supports it.
NOTE: Release candidate 2 Windows binaries are not code-signed; use PGP and the SHA256SUMS.asc file to make sure your binaries are correct. In the final 0.9.0 release, Windows setup.exe binaries will be code-signed.

OSX 10.5 / 32-bit no longer supported

0.9.0 drops support for older Macs. The minimum requirements are now: * A 64-bit-capable CPU (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3696); * Mac OS 10.6 or later (see https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1633).

Downgrading warnings

The 'chainstate' for this release is not always compatible with previous releases, so if you run 0.9 and then decide to switch back to a 0.8.x release you might get a blockchain validation error when starting the old release (due to 'pruned outputs' being omitted from the index of unspent transaction outputs).
Running the old release with the -reindex option will rebuild the chainstate data structures and correct the problem.
Also, the first time you run a 0.8.x release on a 0.9 wallet it will rescan the blockchain for missing spent coins, which will take a long time (tens of minutes on a typical machine).

Rebranding to Bitcoin Core

To reduce confusion between Bitcoin-the-network and Bitcoin-the-software we have renamed the reference client to Bitcoin Core.

Autotools build system

For 0.9.0 we switched to an autotools-based build system instead of individual (q)makefiles.
Using the standard "./autogen.sh; ./configure; make" to build Bitcoin-Qt and bitcoind makes it easier for experienced open source developers to contribute to the project.
Be sure to check doc/build-*.md for your platform before building from source.

Bitcoin-cli

Another change in the 0.9 release is moving away from the bitcoind executable functioning both as a server and as a RPC client. The RPC client functionality ("tell the running bitcoin daemon to do THIS") was split into a separate executable, 'bitcoin-cli'. The RPC client code will eventually be removed from bitcoind, but will be kept for backwards compatibility for a release or two.

walletpassphrase RPC

The behavior of the walletpassphrase RPC when the wallet is already unlocked has changed between 0.8 and 0.9.
The 0.8 behavior of walletpassphrase is to fail when the wallet is already unlocked:
> walletpassphrase 1000 walletunlocktime = now + 1000 > walletpassphrase 10 Error: Wallet is already unlocked (old unlock time stays)
The new behavior of walletpassphrase is to set a new unlock time overriding the old one:
> walletpassphrase 1000 walletunlocktime = now + 1000 > walletpassphrase 10 walletunlocktime = now + 10 (overriding the old unlock time)

Transaction malleability-related fixes

This release contains a few fixes for transaction ID (TXID) malleability issues:

Transaction Fees

This release drops the default fee required to relay transactions across the network and for miners to consider the transaction in their blocks to 0.01mBTC per kilobyte.
Note that getting a transaction relayed across the network does NOT guarantee that the transaction will be accepted by a miner; by default, miners fill their blocks with 50 kilobytes of high-priority transactions, and then with 700 kilobytes of the highest-fee-per-kilobyte transactions.
The minimum relay/mining fee-per-kilobyte may be changed with the minrelaytxfee option. Note that previous releases incorrectly used the mintxfee setting to determine which low-priority transactions should be considered for inclusion in blocks.
The wallet code still uses a default fee for low-priority transactions of 0.1mBTC per kilobyte. During periods of heavy transaction volume, even this fee may not be enough to get transactions confirmed quickly; the mintxfee option may be used to override the default.
